How to Stop a Text Message From Sending
Sending a text message to the wrong person can be embarrassing. If you act quickly, you can can stop the text from being delivered even if you’ve already pressed send. You only have a couple seconds so you have to act fast!
The secret is to activate Airplane Mode.
However, If you try to swipe up too quickly, your control center might not open up and you’ll find yourself pressing the spacebar franticly. The key is don’t panic! Let me show you the fastest, most effective way to do this. I’ve found the best way to access the control center is to press firmly using your right thumb directly next to the home button and slide up quickly as high as you can reach.
When the control center appears release your thumb and quickly tap the Airplane Mode icon using your left thumb. Practice this method a couple of times until you feel comfortable doing it quickly. Let’s try it in action.
I’m going to send a text to my wife and try to stop it before it sends.
If you see the little “delivered” note below the message, the message has been sent. If you don’t see the “delivered” note, airplane mode is on, and the blue bar towards the top of the screen isn’t full, you stopped it! But hold on! If you turn off Airplane mode too soon, your text could send.
Wait until you get a notification saying your text message failed to send. If you don’t get a notification, I’ve found that waiting about 5 minutes usually works. At this point, you can turn off airplane mode and delete the text.
Tap and hold the text, tap more, and with the message checked blue, tap the trash bin icon in the bottom left corner of the screen to delete the message.
This trick to stop messages doesn’t always work. Text messages send much faster than pictures and other media messages. If you’re sending media (photos and videos), you’ll have a couple extra seconds, but if it’s just text, you’ll have to act fast!
Practice sending a text to a friend or family member to see if you can stop it!
